  9.  AB    The recent increase in HIV seroprevalence in Poland, particularly among
  10.        injecting drug users, has been accompanied by widespread discrimination
  11.        against people affected by HIV and AIDS. As in other countries, this
  12.        discrimination may be attributed to a large extent to fear and ignorance
  13.        about HIV and AIDS together with pre-existing prejudices against the
  14.        people who are most commonly associated with the epidemic. In Poland
  15.        extreme hostility towards drug users combined with the powerful
  16.        influence of a traditional Catholic church have so far impeded effective
  17.        education about HIV and AIDS and anti-discrimination strategies.
